About the Artist

Walter Joseph’s playful images were recently acquired by the British Library and depict London markets, street traders and entertainers between 1947-48. They provide a unique look at the hardships and pleasures that Londoners faced during the post-war period. As a Jewish refugee, Joseph fled Germany in 1939 and was interned on the Isle of Man for the duration of the war. After the war he was employed in newspaper photographic laboratories but remained a dedicated amateur and semi-professional photographer for the rest of his life. Joseph doubted his own photographic ability but the true value of this fascinating body of work has now been recognised and will become a valued public record.

These remarkable prints are presented to you for the very first time, have never been seen before and are set to become a valuable asset within the British Library's archive. Only 20 of each wil be sold at this size - don't miss this chance to collect this rare and unique set of work.
